Challenging People – A common pitfall for managers and coaches 2

imagesChallenging someone without first instilling confidence can lead to disaster and is a common pitfall for many managers and coaches. When you challenge people do it in a way that inspires them instead of discourages them. When people feel challenged they should also feel capable of success but not helpless. Before challenging someone make sure the person has enough confidence to believe they can succeed. If you challenge someone and the result of their success benefits you personally, consider whether or not the challenge is for selfish or selfless motives. Most people will feel good when they bring out the best in people and challenging is essential to doing this. Make sure your challenges are effective and build your relationships instead of tear them down. Now challenge yourself, ask “what’s one way of challenging someone in this way?”
